Are you worn out and weary from living an unhealthy lifestyle because of addictions? Are you looking for a fresh lease of life to rehabilitate and rejuvenate, then read on! This post may just be the one for you.
There are many types of addictions – addictions to substances and addictions to habits. Very often people tend to take a moral high ground approach to addictions as a sort of moral failing and weakness. But deeper research and scientific thought have shown us that it is rather a relapsing, harmful brain condition.
Every year we find more and more Americans drawn into the devastating gamut of substance addiction which most would now identify as marijuana (or cannabis), cocaine, heroin, alcohol etc., the list is rather long.
Substance addiction is an out-of-control, compulsive desire to consume a substance, fully knowing about its harmful consequences, yet unable to stop. Continued, unrestricted usage of such harmful substances can cause destructive changes to the brain causing loss of self-control and the ability to refrain oneself from consuming those harmful substance and drugs.
So, why do people take drugs in the first place?
People resort to drugs for many reasons:
If it is good and relieves stress and pain, then why are some drugs banned and called harmful?
Because some substances which give positive effects in the short run may over a period of time, damage the brain’s functioning and the ability to exercise self-control; they can alter behaviour drastically, intoxicate the user affect memory and the ability to learn, and comprehend. These drugs can impair judgement and fundamental normal human behaviour. And because it has a compulsive and destructive effect on the brain, one should avoid such drugs or resort to rehabilitation to control further damage.
What are the symptoms of substance abuse?
On a general note, one can notice a change in behaviour of the user, an increased need to remain aloof, nervousness, agitation, and signs of depression. There could be an increase in muscle or bone pain, fever, insomnia, seizures and other such physical symptoms too.
Drugs Prohibition – Controversies surrounding a few psycho-active drugs – benefits, drawbacks and more:
Though there is a blanket ban on psycho-active drugs, there is a divided opinion on whether a few drugs can be exempted on a strictly medical, and prescription basis. Medical Marijuana or medical Cannabis, Kratom or Mitragyna Speciosa Kroth are two prominent drugs currently caught in the eye of a raging pharmaceutical battle.
While the medical uses and benefits and the devastating effects of marijuana can be traced to the Before Christ (B.C) era, not many people are aware of Kratom and what it can do.
If you want to know what is Kratom? It is a tree found in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. The leaves of the Kratom tree can be eaten raw or crushed and brewed or powdered. In small regulatory doses these Kratom leaves are known to relieve pain and in fact Southeast Asian agricultural labourers have been known to consume these leaves to be able to work long hours in the fields.
However, this is where it stops. A prolonged consumption of these leaves act as a sedative and has psycho-addictive effects on the brain. It is clear that there is a split down the middle even within the medical community regarding the complete ban of Kratom
There is a pro-Kratom side who refer to the positive effects of medically-prescribed dosage which can relieve pain, depression and anxiety. In small regulated dosages it can be used as a medication for Opioid patients to counter the ill-effects of addiction. Then there is the anti-Kratom side who argue on the long-term psycho-addictive disturbances it can cause to the brain.
The recent ban of Kratom by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and listing it as a schedule 1 Drug in the same category as LSD, Marijuana, Ecstasy, Heroin had sparked much outrage and public debate triggered by the American Kratom Association and Botanical Education Alliance. The opposition for the blanket ban, forced the DEA to reconsider its decision and delay the ban. The FDA and DEA are looking at a scientific and complete medical evaluation of Kratom and a scheduled recommendation.
Therefore, it is important to have an unbiased opinion and get a true evaluation.
